SCF Fine Art Gallery and Theatre Program
“Art of the Wedding Costume: Ritual and Romance,” an upcoming art exhibit hosted by the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Fine Art Gallery and Theatre Program, will be on display in the Fine Art Gallery Sept. 19-Dec. 3. An opening reception will be held 6-8p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., building 11 North. The event is free and open to the public.

A retrospective look at wedding costumes through the decades, “Art of the Wedding Costume” will include a display of men’s and women’s traditional, nontraditional and cultural wedding attire from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
Presented from the perspective of the wedding ceremony as a theatrical performance, the exhibit features wedding costumes from the 1850s to 2014 that reflect the personalities of the men and women who contributed their wedding attire. The exhibit weaves their stories through a narrative that chronicles the evolution of historical, cultural, artistic and social issues related to wedding costume styles and customs during that time period.
Exhibition curators Kenneth Erickson, SCF Theatre Program director and Neel Performing Arts Center manager, and Joseph Loccisano, SCF Fine Art Gallery manager, selected items for the exhibition from local community members, Retro Rosie Vintage Clothing, Asolo Repertory Theatre, South Florida Museum and other organizations.
