The SCF-RCAD articulation agreement, effective this academic year, allows SCF graduates of the A.A. degree with an emphasis in studio art to be accepted into RCAD’s B.F.A. in Fine Arts Degree Program, which provides a range of knowledge, skills, and competencies expected of graduates interested in becoming professional artists.
“We provide our students with a strong foundation in the arts to prepare them to attend the best art schools in the country. SCF’s new partnership with RCAD is an example of an additional opportunity for students to earn a degree from a prestigious art school and excel as professionals in the highly competitive art world,” said Jamie Tracy, SCF assistant professor and program manager of studio arts, who initiated the A.A. to B.F.A. in Fine Arts Program with RCAD.
In addition to SCF’s general education requirements for the A.A. degree, SCF students must complete core courses in art history, drawing and design and choose nine credits to fulfill requirements for a specialization in either two-dimensional or three-dimensional studio art. Students also must meet other criteria outlined in the articulation agreement.
“We are excited about this articulation agreement that represents the visions of both institutions to enhance students’ educational experience by offering a seamless transition from the associate level to the bachelor’s level,” said Andrew Webster, professor and department chair of art, design, humanities at SCF.
According to Robert Farber, RCAD interim fine arts department head, the collaboration with SCF “will provide local Florida students with substantial financial and professional advantages with respect to achieving their professional goals. Without the program, those students may not have had the resources necessary to attend Ringling College of Art and Design.”
In developing this partnership with SCF, Ringling College’s fine arts department faculty felt strongly about providing a pathway for local Florida high school students to realize their professional goals and attain a B.F.A. in Fine Arts at RCAD. The 2+2 articulation agreement provides access and opportunity for eligible Florida students who want to pursue professional program(s) but may not have the financial resources necessary to attend RCAD for four years.
