Sex and Chocolate, A Reductive Collage Show by Christopher Schumaker

Sept. 28 – Oct. 5, 2012
Crossley Gallery, Ringling College of Art and Design

“Collage from the French: à coller, to glue, French pronunciation; is a technique of art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.” This process is normally additive; I found a way to make an image from the opposite process, working reductive. Sexually charged images creating an interesting dialogue in the contemporary arts. I appropriate imagery and work backwards to compose an intriguing composition.

[CROSSLEY GALLERY HOURS] Monday- Friday 10am-4pm

The Crossley Gallery was established in 1999, to showcase the talent of the Ringling College students. Two senior fine arts majors are appointed to direct the gallery during their senior year. The gallery experience provides the students an opportunity to learn the challenges of exhibition planning, scheduling and installation. The exhibition schedule is primarily devoted to the work of Fine Arts majors. In the past it has included work from other majors, visiting artists, alumni and individuals in the community.

Crossley Gallery is located on the Ringling College of Art and Design campus, at 2698 Bradenton Rd., Sarasota FL 34234
