September 22 – 23, 2012
Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center
Local artist collective S/ART/Q announces its fourth annual “Print Party,” an event that gives the public a chance to interact with artists and artistic process. Formed in late 2008, S/ART/Q is a group of ten professional contemporary artists whose name underscores their connection to the region (a take-off on the area’s three letter airport code “SRQ”) and the central role that art plays in all our lives, especially here on the cultural coast.
From 5 to 10 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 22nd, and from 12 – 4 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 23rd, S/ART/Q will hold its free screen-printing party at the newly renovated Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center”.

Fogartyville manager David Beaton says, “We hope to see Fogartyville become a place where art, culture, music and politics intentionally collide to inspire positive community change. The sARTq print party is right up our alley!”Located at 525 Kumquat Ct., downtown Sarasota, the SARTQ 4th Annual Print Party will host live screen printing by local artists, music, activities for children, numerous food vendors, and much more. Additional information will be available on www.sartq.com.
The previous print party in September of 2011 drew nearly 2,000 people who brought shirts, skirts, placemats and everything in between to be screened in person by the artists. “Last year’s print party was another fantastic event, and this year we expect to feature more designs, an even better location with more features for the entire family,” explains S/ART/Q co-founder Tim Jaeger. “This year we are raising funds to help offset the expenses for S/ART/Q’s participation in the SELECT Art Fair which runs in conjunction with Miami Art Basel the first weekend of December 2012. It is with the generous support of the community that S/ART/Q has been able to continue to provide unique and engaging arts experiences and now we hope to continue part of this mission outside of our community.”
Once again, each of the artists has created an original design for the event. Attendees may bring their own clothing items, however anything that can lie flat under the screen and will accept ink can be printed on. “It is really fun to print on home accessories like pillow cases or your favorite coat, the possibilities are endless” says S/ART/Q member Ariana Franco. Choose your favorite design — or pick several! — each print is just $5. “What’s great about this event is that it’s a way for viewers and artists to interact outside of a gallery exhibition, the collective strives to create more opportunities like that.” says S/ART/Q member Jen Nugent. The public is encouraged to be creative, with some particularly cute dog clothes, baby tees and handbags resulting from last year’s event. There will also be blank t-shirts on hand for purchase. This is a free, family friendly event.
