SCF Showcases Student Art

An annual juried SCF Student Art Exhibition featuring the best artwork produced by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) students in the 2011-12 academic year.

An annual juried SCF Student Art Exhibition featuring the best artwork produced by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) students in the 2011-12 academic year will open with a reception from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday, April 13, in the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West, building 11 North. The reception is free and open to the public.

Artwork on display includes Best in Show, SCF President’s Award, and the top three winners in the following categories: photography, graphic design, two-dimensional design and three-dimensional design.

Johnette Isham, a designer and educator with more than 30 years’ experience in art, education, and nonprofit and corporate settings, will judge the competition. Isham is founding executive director of Realize Bradenton, a nonprofit organization that promotes downtown Bradenton’s arts, culture and history. She was vice president for academic affairs at Ringling College of Art and Design and director of noncredit and corporate education programs at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

In addition, SCF Studio Art Scholarship winners will display their work in the exhibition. SCF students Jamie Keesler, Kaitlin McDaniel, Scott Russo and Iris Harrison received a one-semester scholarship for their portfolios and written artist statements that were submitted to an art faculty committee, which determined the winners. Students also will work six hours per week as assistants in one of the following SCF venues: Two-dimensional Design Studio, Ceramics Studio, Fine Art Gallery or Photography Suite.
