Abnormality Art Show

Saturday, December 1, 2012
stationnumberthree, St. Petersburg, FL

Like a trip through history – documenting cabinets of curiosity, sideshows, medical preparations and taxidermy – this show celebrates all that is anomalous, obscure and unusual.

Saturday, December 1, 2012 | 6 – 11 pm (one night only)
stationnumberthree, St. Petersburg, FL

Presented by Josh Poll and Casey Paquet

Some of the most compelling aspects of life are also the most unusual. The human inclination to collect, and in particular to collect the unusual – the forbidden – is as old as written history. Trade in taxidermy, skulls, teeth, obscure medical instrumentation, secret society ephemera and freaks of nature hit a high point in Victorian times – but the interest in these same materials is on an upswing again. Paying tribute to the passionate collector of oddities in our past, and now again in our present, Abnormality celebrates and exalts all that is peculiar and brings beautiful artwork from the shadows into the spotlight.

Like a trip through history – documenting cabinets of curiosity, sideshows, medical preparations and taxidermy – this show celebrates all that is anomalous, obscure and unusual. Part of the oddity of the show is the materials – where you’d expect to find an animal skull you’ll now find an intricately crafted glass sculpture. Where you’d expect to find preserved flesh you’ll now find wood, plastic, metal and paint. Nothing is what it seems.

Join 30 artists at the incredible stationnumberthree, former Fire Station Number Three, a 3,200 sq. ft. building from the 1940s converted into an art gallery. A unique venue with personality and history, it is the perfect location for an abnormal show with exposed brick walls, rusty metal and a beautiful patina crafted by time. Artists include:

Artists: Mark Aeling, Scott Baker, Kevyn Bartlett, Joe Boccia, Viking Ben, W Herb Clark, Peter Connell, Ryan Cullen, Patrick Deignan, Howdy Doll, Emily Dwyer, Dysfunctional Grace Art Co, Rich Frederick, Joe Griffith, Allen “Leper” Hampton, Keller, Bradley Kokay, Steve Lanier, Shan Leah, Renee Little, Andrew MacArthur, Owl, Casey Paquet, Paul Paquet, Chris Parks (aka Pale Horse), Josh Poll, Jon Rodriguez, Trinity Rivard, Missy Roll, Jason Sexton, J. Michael Taylor, Uprooted Creations, Dave Walker, Sean Williams and Christian Zvonik.
